Group Opposes Farmers Branch Mayoral Candidate

FARMERS BRANCH (CBS 11 News) ― Just one day after officially announcing his candidacy for mayor of Farmers Branch, Tim O'Hare is facing some strong opposition from a new coalition. The group is so new that they do not even have a name yet.

Led by activist Carlos Quintanilla, the coalition of residents and business owners have a mission: to defeat Tim O'Hare.

Quintanilla formed the group on Friday as a movement to ensure that Tim O'Hare is not the next mayor of Farmer Branch.

Tim O'Hare is the Farmers Branch city councilman who pushed efforts to pass one of the country's most sweeping anti-illegal immigration measures.

Quintanilla said that the candidate his group will endorse will not be Hispanic. He does not want to focus on the candidate's race. "The race is not going to be about immigrants or non-immigrants, it's going to be about issues. It's going to be about issues that affect the citizens of Farmers Branch, that affect the children, that affect homeowners, that affect senior citizens," Quintanilla said.

The new coalition will announce their candidate's name next week. The mayoral election will be held in May.
